Community Care Skill Share: Learn to Crochet!
Wednesday, November 15, 2pm-3pm
UIC DCC, BSB Room 235 and on Zoom: https://go.uic.edu/DCCZoom
1007 W Harrison St.
Have you ever wanted to learn how to crochet? Come and learn how to crochet a coaster, bookmark, or start off a bigger project like making a scarf!
This workshop is led by Paloma Araujo, a UIC student, DCC student worker, and DCC Community Care Cohort intern, along with special guest, Alyson Kung, Assistant Director for Education and Outreach at the Asian American Resource and Cultural Center.
Paloma and Alyson will teach us crocheting basics such as how to create a starting chain, making a single crochet stitch, a half-double crochet, and a double crochet. They might even teach us the basics of how to learn to read a pattern!
Already know how to crochet? You should come, too! Join us for some community crafting time.
In person: The DCC will provide the supplies, including accessibility tools such as a crochet ring, thicker hook grips, and stitch markers.
On Zoom: Bring whatever tools and supplies you have! We recommend a 5mm crochet hook and colorful yarn (sometimes less fuzzy yarn can be easier for beginners to work with). We will have our Zoom camera in close-up on the demonstrations.
Covid safety: UIC does not require masking, but we are continuing to mask indoors as an accessibility measure for sick/immunocompromised folks and those living interdependently with them. Please wear a mask! We’ll have extras on hand.
Access info: This is a physically accessible space by elevator, and we will have CART (live captions) in the Zoom and projected in the space. Please get in touch with any access requests or questions at dcc@uic.edu or 312-355-7050.
